Mongolia experience tour (5 days)

This journey lets you experience Mongolia’s history, culture, nature, and nomadic lifestyle. You’ll ride camels across Elsen Tasarkhai’s sand dunes, visit the ruins of Kharkhorum and Erdene Zuu Monastery, and explore the Orkhon Valley. Enjoy a horseback ride, visit a local herder’s family, and experience the nomadic way of life. This unforgettable trip offers a chance to discover Mongolia’s history, culture, and stunning landscapes.

  • Style: Private, relaxed, off-the-beaten-path, suitable for families with a toddler
  • Focus: Nature, local life, outdoor activities, different types of traditional and modern yurts

Day 1 – Elsen Tasarkhai | Sand Dunes & Nomadic Life

Our driver and guide will greet you at the airport and the trip around Central Mongolia will begin. Departure from Ulaanbaatar leads to Elsen Tasarkhai, a peaceful semi-desert area where sand dunes meet grassland and small rivers. The 4-hour drive is easy and allows stops for your toddler.

Upon arrival, enjoy a gentle walk to the nearby sand dunes. The walk is easy and flexible in length, allowing time for rest and play. For adults, a short camel ride is available.

In the afternoon, visit a local nomadic family and be welcomed into their home for a true introduction to traditional Mongolian life. Guests will:

  • Learn about daily nomadic routines
  • Experience hospitality with milk tea and local snacks
  • Become familiar with the structure and use of a real traditional Mongolian yurt (ger)

Accommodation:
Overnight in a fully traditional felt yurt at a nomadic homestay (or small local ger camp).
Accommodation will be arranged as 1 single yurt and 1 twin bed yurt, providing privacy and comfort.

Meals: Lunch & dinner

Day 2 – Bat-Ulzii Soum | Yurt-Making Workshop & Blue-Sky Camp

Following a leisurely breakfast, depart from Elsen Tasarkhai and proceed towards the Ulaan Tsutgalan waterfall, a drive of approximately four hours. En route, make a scheduled visit to Bat-Ulzii soum, a peaceful rural region recognized by locals for its traditional yurt (ger) craftsmanship. The journey is conducted at an unhurried pace, incorporating regular stops for stretching, photography, and to ensure the comfort of the toddler.

Upon arrival, visit a local yurt-making workshop, where families have been producing gers for generations. This is a non-touristic, working environment rather than a show display. Guests will have the opportunity to:

  • Observe how wooden lattice walls (khana), roof poles (uni), doors, and crowns (toono) are made
  • Learn about felt quality, insulation, and seasonal adaptations
  • Discuss practical aspects of transporting, assembling, and maintaining yurts — especially relevant for future use in Europe

After visiting, you'll see the day's highlight: the Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall. Then, we'll head to Blue Sky Camp, set in open steppe with expansive views and a peaceful setting.

Afternoon & Evening

  • Free time to rest after the drive
  • Easy walks around the camp and surrounding grassland
  • Time for the toddler to play safely in open, natural space
  • Dinner and overnight at the camp

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the renowned Erdene Zuu Monastery—the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Encircled by a vast wall with 108 stupas, it stands as one of the nation's most significant religious landmarks.

A visit to the local international museum provides deeper insight into the region’s history.
